2007-07-02 19:07:43 : Fixed the editor
Turns out when I added all of the fancy AJAX stuff to the editor I broke the old school text editor in the process of making everything work with the FCKeditor.  Long story short, it is working again.  Hurray for just barely knowing the right amount of JavaScript in order to fix it after having not touched that code in months.

2006-11-12 10:48:18 : New entry editor is online
I'm pleased to announce the arrival of the latest version of the entry editor.  It uses AJAX technology in order to make repeated updates to an entry much faster than ever before since you are no longer waiting on an entire page to load.  Additionally this is one features a somewhat cleaner and easier to quickly navigate interface where everything is clearly grouped.  Also, the user pic selector is kind of cool and a long-awaited feature that I just never got around to finishing until now.  The Preview option is back to being a radio button along with the Save option.  Previews can be accessed either through the Preview option and clicking on Submit, or by clicking on the Preview button in the FCKeditor toolbar.

As usual, if you find any bugs or have question/suggestions let me know.

2006-11-05 08:52:48 : FCKeditor upgraded and adding some AJAX magic
I've upgraded the FCKeditor to the latest version (2.3.2).  I've also started to add some AJAX magic to the site, but it'll be a bit before any is added to where the public will see it.  Converting stuff to use AJAX is a pretty major hassle requiring some things to be almost completely rewritten.

2006-08-28 22:49:32 : FCKeditor updated
The FCKeditor has been updated to the latest version.  Let me know if there are any problems.

2006-06-18 14:22:26 : Updated the comments system a bit
I've updated the comments system a bit by adding the ability to use a subset of BBCode and making it so that any HTML tags will be visible as plain text.  In other words, if someone puts in any HTML code in a comment, it won't render as they expect it to and you'll be able to see exactly what it was.  If I find some kind of serious problem with it I'll go back to removing HTML tags entirely as before.

2006-06-17 18:54:19 : Updated FCKeditor
We've updated the FCKeditor today and users should find that it loads faster now.  All the same WYSIWYG goodness as before but in a faster package.  We've also updated the User Prefernces page to use the FCKeditor for the Bio.  This is of course based on the default editor selected just as with the Entry Editor.

2006-06-10 09:36:16 : Friends entry list on the Users Menu
Upon login to the site when you're redirected to your Users Menu you'll see a list of the thirty recent entries by friends.  This should make it easier to keep up-to-date with your friends without having to go to the full list.  I'll be adding more useful items to the Users Menu (finally) in the next few weeks or so as time permits.

2006-04-01 15:16:03 : New Server
Sorry for the downtime the past few hours, but we've been in the process of migrating the site to another server.  All seems to be well now, and there should be some speed increases noticed in some areas of the site.  As always, if you notice something isn't quite right, just let us know.

2006-01-11 10:20:28 : Weblogs.com ping update
We've changed from the simple to extended weblogs.com ping format.  This allows us to send not just the title and URL to weblogs.com, but also the RSS feed URL.  We could continue to use the simple format and change it to send the RSS feed, but the extended ping is just overall better and we'll be sending both URLs now.  You still have to have RSS/Atom feeds enabled in your profile in order to use this feature.

2005-12-22 08:46:09 : Colorpicker for the color prefs page
I've added a slightly modified version of the flooble javascript color picker to the color preferences page.  You'll need to make sure you have javascript enabled (and you most likely do) to use it.  Just visit the color prefs page and click on the little colored box to the left of the input field and a new little window should appear with a palette to choose from will appear.  Either click on the little box again to close it or pick a color.  Too simple!  You can of course continue to manually enter your color values if you know how or want to.

2005-11-29 09:15:14 : Spell check
For anyone using the new editor spell-check has been enabled.  It isn't perfect by any means and sometimes will even get words out of order, but it's there and better than nothing.  If you find that the little "ABC [check]" icon is still dimmed out then you may have to clear your browsers cache or wait a few days before it fixes itself.

2005-11-23 00:03:07 : A new entry editor
We've added the FCKeditor as a new editor for entries.  You can switch between the original editor and the new editor, but you'll have to choose to use the FCKeditor.  Think of it as a WYSIWYG editor similar to MS Word but for your entries.  You can chose which to use by visiting the Defaults section and selecting Yes to FCKeditor.  If you have any problems at all, switch back to using the original editor and report the problem ASAP.

2005-11-06 11:47:54 : Troubles resolved (for now)
If you're reading this then the site is back up and should be fully functional once again. Appologies for that. Let us know if you notice anything out of order.

2005-11-03 18:08:15 : Trouble with the site
Some pages of the site cannot currently be loaded due to a serious (in my opinion) bug in the new 4.4.1 version of PHP which we upgraded to. The problem occurs when using Apache's mod_rewrite which we use here.
Users can still log in and create entriers as usual, you just won't be able to see those updates until after this problem is resolved. Sorry for the inconvience.

2005-09-01 08:15:34 : CAPTCHA
We've added CAPTCHA support for two parts of the site now: New user registration and anonymous comment posting. CAPTCHA is basicly a way to tell people and computers apart by displaying an image with a word in it and requiring that the word be entered with the rest of the form. This is being done in order to head off any potential troubles with people using scripts to create users or spamming comment areas anonymously.
Since this is new here and only been tested enough to see that it works it might still have some bugs to be worked out, but we're pretty sure we've got it nailed down. Please report any problems you encounter.

2005-08-21 00:21:47 : Messengers
I've added a new option to the Messengers menu - Permissions. Now you can make your messengers displayed in your bio only available to friends, logged in users, and everyone (the default).
I also finally added an interface for the links and link categories, but that's only available to administrators, so uh... yeah.

2005-02-19 19:02:58 : Comment threading is (finally) finished
I've finished updating the comments section to perform full threading of replies. Just had to make a couple minor changes to finish this up, actually. Now people can reply to specific replies and they'll be displayed fully threaded with proper ordering by date/time. Spiffy.

2005-02-11 09:35:08 : Important License update regarding content
I've added a Creative Commons license blurb at the bottom of the system-wide pages. This licensing blurb essentially says that all content is free for distribution (such as via RSS) so long as the source/author is attributed, the content is not used commercially, and no derivative works are created from the content. Please see the system account entry concerning this for a more verbose explaination as to what this means and why it has been done. Feel free to email me with whatever questions you have about this.

2004-11-26 13:58:31 : Happy (day after) Thanksgiving
Things have been busy here, and pretty much only a few minor bugfixes have been completed and made their way into the production site here. Work on user icons is perhaps half completed, however, so we might be rolling that out in a month or so. Stay tuned for that goodness. And on that note, I'll go back to putting more tile in the bathroom.

2004-09-04 10:08:31 : Change to the user listing
I've made a change to the user listing so now the number of entries is not displayed. The recent users listing will continue to function as it always has.

2004-06-25 16:25:25 : Entry editor update
I've made a small change to the entry editor where now instead of having radio buttons for Preview and Insert/Save and a button, you now just have two buttons for those actions. Give it a whirl, report problems, submit ideas.

2004-04-19 09:25:26 : Newish theme added
I've added a new theme to the mix. It likely needs a little tweaking, and customization options for the colors, but it's pretty nice looking. A step in a right direction or something, plus it shows the beginings of the user icons.

2004-03-27 20:45:39 : "Redirect Limit Exceeded" no more!
Ok, I've fixed a major bug that has probably prevented nearly everyone under the sun from connecting to the index page for a couple months now. Yippie.

2004-03-09 07:14:10 : Updates
I've finally added a link to the "punquin"-like template for users to be able to create new entries without haveing to go to the index or somewhere else within the site first. I'll update the other templates in the very near future.

2003-12-03 09:06:48 : Upgraded once more
The diary system has been upgraded to the latest and greatest version of this software you are seeing run the site. Uh, call it Version 3.2. Everything is fully templatized and many minor bugs were quashed. As always, please report and errors/bugs you find and feel free to send in feature/change requests.

2003-12-02 09:32:58 : Bustin' ass, yo
Yesterday we busted some ass getting a bunch of the site converted over to being fully templatized like we said we would a while back. Well, it's happening in a hurry now. Just now this morning we've added a forgotten password recovery page to the mix - supply your email address and login and we'll supply your password in an email. Simple.

2003-12-01 09:05:55 : Asending and Desending
A friend asked about being able to change the order in which entries are displayed. So now I've added a way for users to specify in which order they want their entries to be display to the public. At some other point I'll add a way for logged in users to override that setting for viewing other peoples entries.

2003-10-31 15:46:47 : minor changes
As usual I've been pretty much dormant again with development of the site, however I have made a few changes in the past few days: When logging in Securely, you will remain in Secure mode until you log out. When logged in, there are now links you can use on the side menu to switch between Secure and Insecure modes. When logging in or changing your password you are encouraged to use Secure mode. In user Bios, the last date and time a user logged in is now displayed.
Oh, and Happy Halloween.

2003-09-28 09:18:23 : A couple small changes
We've fixed a possible bug in the login script which may have caused it to not let new users know that they needed to activate their account before they could login (though it is clearly stated in both the email sent and after hitting submit on the new user page). Whups. Secondly we've made it so that once your account is activated you'll have User status and not Reader status. Yee-haw!

2003-09-20 10:28:49 : Version 3.0 is online
Yep, here it is, the next major upgraded version. This is actually sort of half way to being where I wanted it for this version, but that's why version numbers can go up easily. This release healds in the basis of templates for List and View modes, a javascript date picker when writing/editing an entry, bug fixes, and sessions being stored in the database which will allow us to easily add a feature for users to see who else is logged in at the same time. Neet stuff all around, generally.
